Long-term memory

AI companion with long-term memory

A good conversation can feel warm in the moment. A continuing relationship needs something more: the ability to carry forward the details that matter without treating every chat like a first meeting. Lumeki is designed around that continuity.

In brief

What to know

  • Important details can carry into future conversations.
  • General preferences and companion-specific moments are kept in the right context.
  • Saved memories are visible in Lumeki and can be deleted individually.

What long-term memory means in an AI companion

Long-term memory is different from simply keeping a chat transcript. A transcript is a chronological record. Useful memory turns selected details into organized context that can help a future conversation make sense.

That context might include a preference you have mentioned, a goal you are working toward, an important event, or a detail that belongs to your relationship with one companion. Lumeki uses those organized memories to reduce the feeling of starting over.

Memory should support continuity, not force every old detail into every new conversation.

The kinds of details that can be useful later

Not every sentence deserves to become long-term context. The most useful memories are details that can make a later conversation more relevant, personal, or considerate.

  • Stable preferences, routines, and communication style
  • Goals, plans, and events you may want to revisit
  • People, places, or interests that matter to you
  • Relationship-specific moments shared with a particular companion

Continuity works best with clear boundaries

Remembering more is not automatically better. Context needs to stay relevant, and relationship-specific details should not be casually mixed between companions. Lumeki separates shared profile context from memories that belong to an individual companion relationship.

When a current message conflicts with an older memory, the current message should lead. People change their minds, routines, and circumstances; a companion should leave room for that change.

You can review what has been saved

Lumeki includes a Memories area where organized memories can be reviewed. If a saved detail is no longer useful or you do not want it retained, you can delete that memory individually.

Privacy & Security settings also provide broader controls for clearing companion data. Those controls are intentionally separate from ordinary chat so that deletion remains an explicit action.

What memory does not guarantee

AI memory is designed context, not human recollection. A companion may miss a detail, interpret it imperfectly, or decide it is not relevant to the current conversation. Saved memory should improve continuity, but it cannot guarantee perfect recall or perfect judgment.

The healthiest expectation is practical: fewer unnecessary repetitions, more context when it matters, and visible controls when you want something forgotten.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Does Lumeki remember every message?

No. Conversation history and organized long-term memory serve different purposes. Lumeki focuses on details that may be useful for continuity rather than presenting every message as a permanent memory.

Can I see what Lumeki remembers?

Yes. The Memories area lets you review organized memories associated with your account and companion relationships.

Can I delete a saved memory?

Yes. Individual memories can be deleted. Broader companion-data deletion controls are also available in Privacy & Security settings.

Do all companions share the same memories?

Some stable profile context may be broadly useful, while relationship-specific details stay associated with the companion relationship where they belong.
